Our Modern Farmhouse project received the 2024 Interior Architecture Award from the regional design institute, recognized for blending rural charm with contemporary living needs.
The award specifically cited the project's handling of light and circulation. Jurors noted how the renovation opened up a previously dark and cramped floor plan without changing the home's exterior footprint. The kitchen reconfiguration and the steel-framed window wall facing the fields received the most comments. Three other projects were finalists in the same category.
This is the first time our firm has received recognition from this particular institute. We submitted the project back in March, not expecting much among entries from larger firms with bigger portfolios. The award ceremony took place last Thursday at the downtown arts center. Our lead designer on the project accepted the plaque in front of about two hundred attendees.

The jury wrote that the home feels both thoughtful and unpretentious—a balance that is harder to achieve than dramatic gestures.
We do not enter many award competitions, and we do not plan to start chasing them. But this recognition means something specific to us: it confirms that our focus on function, craftsmanship, and honest materials is valued beyond just our own clients. The homeowners have already agreed to let us use the project for future submissions and open-house events. For now, the plaque hangs in our main office next to the coffee maker—not in a glass case. That feels about right for a project built by people who still sweep their own job sites.
